    • made application for entry for a homestead on two different quartersections - both the SW and NW quarter of 9-34-7 W4M. On September 28,1909 he signed a declaration to abandon both of these quarters with theexplanation that "The land is unfit for cultivation". Through theseaffidavits he was granted release from any obligations on these twoquarter sections.
    • built a sod house 12' X 29' and and moved in || Over the next three yearsthey built a sod barn 13' X 34', dug a water well, plowed 40 acres andfenced 40 additional acres and by 1913 had a farm with 4 horses, 11cattle and 3 pigs. In 1911, 12, 13 he put a crop in on 40, 23 and 14acres.
